How to avoid tax deduction (TDS), while applying for a fixed deposit in bank?

Sandeep - 2008-04-09 00:14:29 - India

I am aged 36 and wish to invest Rs. 50 thousand for 6 months and Rs. 1 lac for one year in term deposit in a bank. Which form 15 G or 15 H should I submit to the bank, to avoid TDS? Do I need to submit the form alongwith the FD application or at the end of financial year?

Best Answer:

You need to submit form 15G before the end of the financial year. 15H is for senior citizens.

Deposit before march 15th of every year and get a certificate from Bank manager for submitting along with TDS

To avoid and totally free from TDS, deposit your 25 (out of 1 lakh for one year) +50 (for 6 months)=75 thousands in one branch and 75 thousands (out of 1 lakh for one year) in another branch. Then there will not be any TDS at all. You need not give any forms at all. You can relax without worry. TDS will be calculated branch wise.

my dear freind ignore all advices for tax avoidance. all the data on bank deposits and transactions are available to the IT dept. at some point in future, even if u split deposits between banks using ur PAN and other details the dept will collect its tax. better learn to live with compliance than to regret later.

If you have taxable income i.e. your net income after deductions is more than Rs 150000/- for FY 08-09, than you are not supposed to fill 15G.

You have to provide the Bank Form 15H along with your FD application.
